The process of selecting which channels that will be included in the subscription package is usually the hard part. If your satellite receiver has the capability for two lines being input from the satellite dish, it is possible to view one satellite TV channel while recording a second channel. If your television has the picture-in-picture option, you can see the different channels at the same time. However, which satellite TV channel you can view is determined by the card in your receiver.

One of the chief advantages of satellite television is the ability to receive more channels than with regular UHF or VHF television. These signals beamed from an antenna need a direct line of sight for your home antenna to pull it in. The signal strength of the originating signal must also be strong enough to reach your antenna and the typical longest range is about 50 miles with line of sight.
